Annotated Bibliography #1

Annotated Bibliography #1

I was given this website to explore from my Academic Coach at Stephen Decatur.  This website gives an overview of what is Project Based Learning.  This is a new authentic way of teaching to students to enhance 21st century skills.  This site gives a nice description of what is PBL and some videos showing PBL in action.
I was interested in this website because I was on the Decatur Central Design Team last year, and Problem Based Learning is something we want to use.  One of our elementary schools is now gearing up to become a PBL school.  When I looked at this website I watched the 5th grade video and read about the description of PBL.  I am very interested in trying this type of teaching in my own classroom.  I want to make teaching more authentic and have the students involved with their education.  My biggest concerns/questions are, what project can I do in 3rd grade; time; how to grade; and covering the standards.  I would like to find a website that would show how to use PBL in a primary setting. I would also like to see more video examples.

  1. Hi Elisabeth,
I hope this video of using PBL in elementary school will help you.

  2. I think you should not have any trouble using CSR or PBL with your third grade students. You know their capabilities and I think they would be able to rise to the task. (Sure, maybe easier said than done.) Plus, now with the internet, I think you can find practically all kinds of learning projects they could do. However, I had one of the professors in a past semester say that often the best teachers do not do enough to share their ideas (lesson plans and such) with others. So if you do find things that work, be sure to share them so others won't have to worry about it like you currently do.
